Emily Bear is one of today's most celebrated young pianists. She has captured awards, praise, and hearts from all over the world with her virtuoso playing, masterful compositions and captivating personality.
Emily's range of expression across genres, from classical to jazz and her original compositions, speaks to a pianist of musical depth and dexterity as well as artistic virtuosity, explains Emily's teacher Mary Sauer, a concert pianist, artist teacher, Steinway Artist and Principal Keyboardist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She works from a beautiful place within internalizing, interpreting, and creating in the ways we think of our finest pianists and composers.
Bear began studying piano at age five with Emilio del Rosario. She currently studies classical piano with Mary Sauer and jazz improvisation with Alan Swain, with additional mentors at Juilliard and NYU for piano, jazz, and film scoring.
At age five, Emily Bear made her debut performing a 40-minute solo concert at the Ravinia Music Festival, making her the youngest performer in the Festival's 100-year history. Since then, she has performed classical, jazz, and premiered her own works with symphony orchestras and at music festivals, charity engagements, and high profile events both within and outside the United States, including a solo concert at age six at The White House for President George W. Bush, Mrs. Laura Bush, and 400 guests.
At age 7, Emily performed Mozart Piano Concerto No.23 in A major, K.488 with two orchestras. Recently, Bear made her Carnegie Hall debut, performing both solo and with orchestra. The event was highlighted by the world premiere of one of her original compositions, performed with a 110-piece orchestra, 220-member chorus, and R&B soloists. After an international debut last summer in Umbria, Italy and Hangzhou, China, Bear will be presented by Quincy Jones at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland this summer following a concert in Vienna, Austria.
Bear has been featured in major local, national, and international media, including stories on ABC Nightline and ABC World News Report. She has also performed on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Dancing with the Stars and Good Morning America.
A recipient of the 2008 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Competition Award for her original song Northern Lights, Bear is a recognized artist who has gained a significant following through her performances and original recorded works, which include five CD's and three sheet music songbooks.
In addition to Bear's May 15, 2011, performance, the STIM.U.LI Music Series launch will include concerts on May 16 and May 21 with internationally acclaimed musicians Mary Sauer, Jeffrey Panko, and Susan Merdinger. For more information, visit www.stimuliseries.com or call 312-985-1995.
