Thank you for the encouragement Trini and eulenspiegel! Today I had to play the bass part anyway. (My music director likes to throw me on any instrument he needs. He especially likes putting me on crash cymbals- my least favorite instrument ever.) Pit orchestra is really fun though! Just can't wait until we try and play The Cyclone. ;D

Hi Sarah, I found something quite entertaining, especially for you-)))
On 8th November 1887 125 years ago Emil Berliner got the patent for the gramophone!
So here an old recording from 1935
Tocata and Fugue d-minor from Bach played by Albert Schweitzer!!!

Sorry for the history, but on this day to this hour 23 years ago the best " mistake" in German history!!!!! The spokesman Schabowksi should tell that every citizen of the GDR can leave the country the next day!!! But as he didn't know this date he told the journalists that the frontiers were open immediately-)))
and some picture of this evening-))))))
Two days later the famous celist Rostropovitsch played an inpromtu concert in front of the Berlin Wall
Three days later the best!!! 7th Beethovens ever!!! Some people say the best!!!! - because of the backround, the audience - classical concert ever!!!! Even the musicians worked themselves in a real frenzy!!!
Daniel Barenboim and the Berlin Philarmonics made a CD of Cosi fan tutte. When they realized that the Berlin Wall was history they made a concert only for citizen of the GDR three days later. In this concert they played the 7th symphonie of Beethoven. I only can recommend to by the DVD of this concert. You can feel the excitement of the audience and the musicians!!! Standing ovations before a concert!!!!
In the beginning of this video the crying man tells the reporter that he never has heard Beethoven likes this. In a civilized country you could get 25 years but they got 28 years.
2nd set -7th Symphonie Beethoven underlined by pictures of concert and history of Berlin Wall From 5:16 on you see also the musicians and audience
As I watch this unbeleavable concert in this moment-)) There is also a fantastic performance of - Beethovens 1st Piano Concert ( Barenboim plays and conducts, but the musicians need only few winks. - Piano Sonate C-Dur -Mozart -as an encore What a pitty!!! that there is no video of this piece on youtube. It blows me every time away. To see all the faces, "normal" people in their street clothes - some of them travelled the whole night to this concert- who slowly realize the events of the days.
This is -I think- the holliest moment in classical music history.
- Overture " Cosi fan tutte"

Hey eulenspiegel! Thanks for the video on the crash cymbals! I've always played them wrong. I hold them wrong... and hit them together wrong. And a bunch of times I've gotten them stuck together! I think I prefer the piano!

In jazz band (yeah, I'm in 4 bands right now... it's crazy) we're playing "In A Sentimental Mood" by Duke Elligton and I think it's probably my new favorite piece that we're playing in jazz band! Our best sax player is taking the solo, and it sounds really nice. It makes me wish I had continued playing saxophone. So anyway, I thought I'd share some Duke Elligton songs. In A Sentimental Mood: Satin Doll on guitar : And on piano (by our favorite): And finally an improv over Take the A Train:

I had to laugh when I read yesterday that New Zealand pupils got this this song as German exam. Some of them should have cried because they found this text shockingly sexy. But there is not any shocking aspect in this song. I would not have chosen this song because its " relatively"-))) difficult for non native speaker. The most well-known in Germany A-Capella group Wise Guys was founded as a band of school friends. They also had gigs on the German Protestant Church Congress. lyricstranslate.com/en/relativ-relatively.htmlWise Guys - Relativ(Relatively) There is a another quite nice and funny song. Nur für dich - ( Only for you) lyricstranslate.com/en/nur-fuer-dich-just-you.html

Now that it's Christmas time, I can share some of my all time favorite Christmas music! I really really really REALLY like Christmas music. I listen to it all year round. Christmas Time is Here by Vince Guaraldi (This is also my piano teachers favorite song. He says he wants it played at his funeral ;D) O Holy Night: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen: And this version too: Czech Drumming Carol: Ukrainian Bell Carol: Those last 3 were arranged by the same guy that did that crazy Pirates of the Carribean arrangement. It's completely crazy! I finally learned to play it, but it was extremely hard. Now I'm learning his Christmas arrangement of The First Noel. 4 in the right hand against 3 in the left hand. Jarrod Radnich is crazy! Has anyone else got favorite Christmas music to share while we wait for Emily's new CD?

I've looked at his music but I'm too lazy (and too busy...) right now to work on it. Plus I'm not really a huge fan of crazy arrangements. Too many embellishments and ornaments and you lose the basis of the piece. As for Christmas music...

I've got some more Christmas music to share. O Come, Emmanuel: I must have listened to this about a billion times already! This is probably one of my new favorite Christmas songs. And this version of the Carol of the Bells with William Joseph! The Nutcraker Suite from Brian Setzer's Orchestra: (I like the original nutcraker too. I saw it twice!) That's all for now. I'm sure I'll be sharing more Christmas music I find, because I'm a little bit obsessed with christmas music. ;D
