I don't know if anyone here has heard of Scott Joplin, if you've heard ragtime music you've heard Joplin he's known as the king of ragtime. Ragtime is the prelude to todays jass. I know how much Emily loves jass and I think she would love his music. One of his better known pieces is below it is one of my favorite all time piano songs, I would sure like to hear Emily play this.

Rachel,
The Entertainer was used in the movie "The Sing" with Robert Redford and Paul Newman. Ever since I saw that movie I have loved the song. They say it's not an easy song to play but I think Emily could play any song she sets her mind to.

Petee yes, it's possible to translate anything from piano to guitar or vice-versa. some songs are easy to translate, some are very difficult. it really just depends on your technical ability and your willpower.

-Definitely mandolin prodigy Sierra Hull, if you like Country or Bluegrass, she is required listening. -Two teen artists that excel at Soul/Gospel/R&B are Sara Niemietz and Bianca Ryan. -Being a Sci-Fi fan, I have always appreciated composer John Williams' scores. Hardly a major Sci-Fi movie or TV show since the 1960s that does not have some of his music in it. Just Google their names for more info.

Hi,
I thought I could add one or the other remarkable musician here. The first is one some here may already know, as Emily had done a master class with him in 2008. His name is Lang Lang. Like Emily he began to play piano at an age of 2 years. He also is part of the Youtube Symphony Orchestra project. I looked up two of his videos:
You should watch in HQ instead of the embedded version, they are excellent quality
This one is featured by Youtube:
Here he plays a composition named "Time for Dreams". The other musician is the composer of this piece.

Firstly I wanted to say that Lang Lang is my favourite Chinese pianist! My favourite piece by him is the Yellow River Piano Concerto (especially the 4th movement). It should be on YouTube I think, and it is really worth watching. I recently found out about another piano prodigy who I think really deserves more recognition - Alice Burla. Her story has many parallels to Emily Bear's. She started improvising at the piano aged 2, started piano lessons aged 4, and after a few months of lessons she performed in front of 700 people at a Music Festival. She is also the youngest student ever admitted to the Pre-College Division at Juilliard (aged 6). Unlike Emily, Alice's parents had real difficulty in getting music education for their daughter. First they immigrated from Ukraine to Canada, then they dropped everything and moved to the US when Alice was accepted into Julliard. They struggled to pay for her tuition before Yamaha Pianos sponsored her music education. Here is Alice playing Chopin, and you can really see she is something special (she comes onto the stage after 30 seconds): Also, a great article written about Alice Burla: www.forward.com/articles/5239/Love, Alice B (I'm also an Alice B )

Umi Garrett is the name of this wonder. She also has had a moment in the spotlight on Ellen's show. This is the best looking clip I've seen uploaded onto YouTube so far: Also more info and performances that she has done are on her own website. www.umipiano.comIn my dreamworld, Emily is hard at work writing an amazing piece for piano duet now. Just a thought. - accskaguy -

Hi Alice and Accskaguy, both child pianists (Alice Burda and Umi Garrettt) are very accomplished and cute pianists. I like them. And Umi's performance on Ellen is very interesting (mainly her tricks of playing the piano ). However, there are really many perfect child pianists you can find on youtube or forum mentioned by damien a few days ago. I still admire their passion to play the piano. I love when they can smile before and/or after they played. Like Emily. However for me honestly, Emily's composing still put her at the top. Petee

Hi Peter,
He is already quite good. But I hope you won't adopt his position. He holds the guitar in very common wrong position. I can assure you from my own experience, his play would get much better if he would hold the guitar right :-)
This way the left arm and hand is forced into a position where you cannot become so precise and fast as with a more stretched and uphold arm and the hand in the right angle. Also you hurt yourself much easier, and some position are very difficult this way.
