Do you play a music instrument or learn to play? If yes, which one? If not, which one would you like to learn?
I play piano ( not so well but I'm trying my best to become better ) I also take singing lessons and I'm singing in a choir. We won a competition with the choir last week * very proud*
I would like to try a few music instruments out and also maybe learn them. These would be: flute, Harp, Violin, Bass ( the big classical one that looks like a big violin-I don't know the english word for it now, sorry )...ehm...yeah I think that's all for the moment
I have to admit I played a trumpet for 8 years, but never was very good at it. I played with my high school concert band in 11th and 12th grades where I was first introduced to classical music. I still remember playing Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.
Lahna opened this discussion so I decided to contribute something about me.
I have to admit that unfortunately I didn't play any musical instrument. And I am sorry that my parents didn't send me to some lessons when I was young. Maybe probably I don't have musical talent at all.
However last year a competition "... has got talent" has run in our country and I fall in love with this competition and I found there my first angel. Than I started to search talents in the world and I found Connie and her forum and fall in love with her. And than I found Emily and I fall in love for the third time. Yes I also found other interesting and talented kids (Kaitlyn Maher, Heather Martin, and so on ...) but Connie and Emily are unique.
But back to the topic. After I saw so many talented people I started to envy people playing some musical instrument. So I decided to start to learn to play any instrument. Now a task was to select one. I like sound of piano, but you know it is a little big and expensive. So I decided to start with a guitar. However I also like a sound of our national version of accordion (heligonka).
So now I learn to play the guitar. My progress is very slow because I am now very busy and can not play when I want but important for me is that I still want to learn.
And it is clear to me that I will not be very good in playing the guitar (I am a little bit old to be good and probably I have not got talent for that), but my goal is only to play for my pleasure.
So that's my story.
Petee
(I am a bit sad now, because my English is very bad and to write this mail took me longer than Emily needs to compose her songs
^^ I once asked a musician what he think about that famous sentence: if you are to old you will not learn to play a music instrument good. and he said: if you realy want it and your body and mind are ok, you can do that! Now I have this always in my mind and this is why I've got a piano now. ( I had a electric one before, and yeah, good pianos are very very expensive! ) To make music, to let your heart speak trough it, it's a wonderful thing. It's important to enjoy the music you make. and it makes happy I'm very happy to have found so many great musiciants and that I've started to try out new music instruments and things, I would never even thought about a few years ago. Music gives power and inspire a lot of people-included me.
hey Lahna, well the english name for the instrument you were telling us is called chellow,
i used to play the piano and would like to keep at it but theres to much to do and enough time to have lessons on the day id like to have lessons but im going to have lessons on how to play the flute starting from 22/4/09 im so excited lol

I played the C flute and a bit of the F flute. Then I learned a local instrument, the "Zither", and later I added the guitar. I hope I will get a keyboard soon, want to try this for a change ;D
I noticed that many people cannot read musical notes. That was funny for me in the beginning, because I learned them for my first instruments when I was around 6 or 7. It was as natural as oridinary reading for me. But for all the studying and money earning I had not much time for music and playing instruments for many years now.

Hi everyone,
I don't speak much here but I would I to say that I play the violin and have played for about 10 years now, and I'm 15 right now. I'm not that good because I don't practice that much anymore, but I still take strings class at school and plan to keep taking it.

Hi guys,
I've been playing the guitar for almost 9 years, since I was 11 years old. I've been playing piano/keyboard for about a year now. I also play the Didjeridu, and a bit of drums and bongos, whenever I get the opportunity. One day I'd like to learn to play the violin and the cello, also maybe another wind instrument, like the flute or ocarina. Playing and writing music is certainly my favorite hobby.

Younghwan~
Younghwansim,
I think if you have played the violin for 10 years and you started so young don't tell me that you are not good (at least a bit . If you don't practice that much and you like violin maybe you only need good motivation. For me such people like Emily are perfect source of motivation. I started to play the guitar half year ago (and I have to say that I am a bit old for that), now I interrupted practising little bit but only because of various reasons which change soon and I will continue in practising.
I'm Charlie, just registered to be the member of Emily's forum. Well~I have learned to play the piano for about 7 years, but still not so good at it~LOL~Never can I played as good as Emily. She's a real talent!
Again a warm welcome here. I am a bit late, but I have an excuse, which is loads of work at the job
I never learned piano, but always wanted to. And last week I went to a music store and they had this Korg stage piano. I tried it and I very much liked the feeling of the keys and the sound, both are so close to a real piano that I could not make a difference, you can hear the dynamics and those fine noises of the strings and the wooden body as if it was a real one. But the main point is you can use headphones, which I think my neighbors would like most So I bought it, and now I need to get some lessons.

and here it is:
Dieter
Dieter,
very nice decision to buy piano and it is very nice piano. I little bit envy you it. And I wish you big fun with it and fast progress to learn to play it and to post your first achievements. If I would not plan to buy flat in coming months I would probably think about piano ;D. However back to point I wanted. So now when you have piano, you need lessons. Maybe you can start here:
Thanks for that link, this is really useful. I already have a lot of fun with my piano. I practice whenever I can. And this guy seems to have a complete basic course there, which is great until I have my first "real" lesson. I already know a bit about piano and I played several instruments before, but he has great tips, very useful for me. I found my right hand needs much more training. Maybe the left hand is already trained well through the guitar.
Yep, and I make few apologies about it as well even though in some circles it's not a *real* instrument.
I've been playing since I was 7, and currently play with two music groups locally. The one I have played with the longest is led by a great vocalist named Florence Shustack. (www.florencesinger.com)
We are usually known as "Take the OY Train". (I think I just heard little Emily audibly wince many, many miles away... hehehe) There are 2 hats for this group really though, the main one being traditional klezmer style music, the other being lighter jazz, pop tunes, depending on the function we are playing for and what we have been requested to do, etc.
The other group I play with is called Libertango, which as you may guess has the tango as the main focus in our repertoire. At the onset of the groups formation I was playing mainly the accordion for the group. However, over the last couple years I have been struggling to adapt to yet another instrument, the bandoneon, which is one of the leading musical voices in the tango.
Leo Sato is one of the leading teachers of proper Argentine style tango dancing here, and he has hosted an annual Tango Gala at which the Libertango group are a regular, and now essential part of. We generally get to play the live tangos / milongas / tango waltzes for the guests to dance to. Lots of fun! This year's Tango Gala event was held at the end of March, and was sold out yet again. (www.dancecalgary.com)
I have had other musical experiences in my past as well, but this pretty much sums up where I'm at right now.
Thanks to those who persisted in reading through my flag waving here.
eulenspiegel2: most things have some delay because of the custom service...and very likely Emily and Abigail did not pay for speed shifting/transport...

Ursula: Unfortunately I can't read the German forum. Sigh. Too bad they haven't said anything. You'd think their lawyers would come out with a statement at the least. And they keep posting on social media like everything is normal.

Ursula: Also why is that other forum in German. Why not English?

eulenspiegel2: it is a German forum...about German pop singer... you may be surprised...but the USA is not the center of the world - it is like US people coming to Europe wondering why not signs in English ..

ursus: Ursula, Google Translate works very well if you translate from German into English and you just need to understand the meaning of what was written. It does still require an understanding of German if you want to use it to post in that language.

ursus: IIRC B&B's lawyers have until 9/23 to respond to the lawsuit. It would not make sense for them to make a public statement before that. B&B themselves have undoubtedly been instructed not to say anything either. That makes sense to me.

mastersgttom: For the benefit of all the members and the guests who visit this site be advised that there is a You Tube video out there of Barlow and Bear doing a live stream. The video was posted by Epic Wonderland. Where she got it I have no clue.

mastersgttom: The video of the live stream cannot be found on any of their social media platforms. At least from any of my feeble attempts. The video is a bit hard to watch because the audio is totally out of sync with the video.

mastersgttom: What I got out of the video was that it had nothing to do with Moana. They were very mum about their work on that movie. Bling Ring came up in some of the comments. A bit odd that they have a live stream out there, writing music, and not making it public.

mastersgttom: Wow! I just noticed that it has been a little over a year since anyone has posted anything in this Shoutbox. Eluenspiegel was the last one. I messaged him this discovery a week ago but haven't heard back. He used to be the most active member here.
