Emily Bear has played piano as the youngest solo performer at Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, a venue known for hosting classy on-the-lawn entertainment for adults. On Thursday (Aug. 20), the 7-year-old from Rockford will be more at home in terms of her age group when she performs at a Ravinia-presented outdoor concert at a kids’ museum in Glenview: Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago. She’ll play a 45-minute solo. By the way, Emily turns 8 later this month. Emily was 6 years old when this photo was taken of her at King Gifted School in Rockford in 2007 reacting to the gym teacher becoming a human sundae. Alan Leon photo for the Register Star. Peter your slipping I found his before you, by the way I'm safely in Chicago and ready for her performance tommorow I brought along her birthday gift and a cd of her playing Mozat in March. don

Don, what an incredible morning today for me when I woke up and looked at the forum. Briefly, WONDERFUL photos you took. Emily has beautiful dress, my belowed smile and as usually she looks very enjoying it. The pic where she holds her present you gave her is beautiful exactly as I imagined before it happend. And I really understand why you are on your knees in the photo with Emily. Don, thanks for these pics, it is for me in the meantime only possibility to a bit feel atmosphere of this great Emily's event. Petee PS: I hope I experience at least a bit similar feelings this weekend.

Ok now I have some time for a few thought about last nights performance. First of all Emily looked fantastic sporting a tan from what I understand she acquired in Hawaii. The performance was scheduled to be outside but because of the weather they moved it inside, this had both it's good points and bad. The room she played in wasn't that small but by no means was it large, They had quite a few chairs set up and the children sat up front not more than five feet from where Emily was playing. Emily had a few obstacles to over come, first her foot pedal kept coming out of adjustment and needed constant mending, second the children and the noise in the room must have been somewhat of a distraction but the performance was mainly for the children and Emily adapted beautifully.
I'll try to list the songs I remember her playing I know it won't be a full list because I'm old and my memory is going. She begain with Dr Gradaus (you know I've listen to alot of people on you tube play this piece but non as well as Emily plays it) well after that one I can only list.
Journey to my Heart (this is still my favorite of her compositions) Take Five Spinata Ellen's Song Thanks The Love in Us Snowdance Girl from Ipanema Wyndham Court Piano in the Sky Over the Rainbow
She played pieces by Duke Ellington
At the end she let kids from the audience give her suggestions and she came up with tunes for all of them, one suggestion was an egg falling from the top of the Sears tower (this building is about 110 stories tall) the tune she came up with for this was really cute and the final note was a smash..lol
her final song was C-boogie which I still think she enjoys playing.
After the performance she signed CD's and greeted the children, she was having lots of fun. It was kinda funny she went from performer Emily into kid Emily and I adore them both.

Hello Don, and thanks for the update. It definately sounded like a fun concert to see. The pictures are also very wonderful. Emily does look like she got a little suntan. Slightly funky stage area, it looks like she is playing the piano inside a commuter train or something, but it still looks like a fun spot. You also got to hear some on the spot Emily style improvization at the end! What a treat that must have been. Thanks again. - accskaguy -

Don, thanks for the report and photos. Glad to know it was an memorable event, despite the problems with location and equipment.

Hi all, I was again a bit googling and one information attracted my attention: "In case you missed Emily Bear at Ravinia Aug. 20, you've got another chance when the 7-year-old piano prodigy returns to the North Shore festival for a short concert at 11 a.m. Saturday. ... Speaking of Ravinia, Broadway star Jason Danieley has replaced Tony Award winner Paolo Szot, who withdrew for personal reasons from Ravinia's Sept. 6 ''Tribute to Rodgers & Hammerstein.'' Danieley will join Kelli O'Hara in performing some of the famed musical team's classic songs."from the article: www.suntimes.com/entertainment/zwecker/1739034,CST-FTR-zp28.article another concert I will not see Petee

I was soooo looking forward to this, but the file was not what I had expected. If you have the actual performence still someplace on your disc, would you be so kind as to upload it (again??). I'd love to hear at least a portion of that. It's a pain to live so far from 'the action'. On the tv show aired the day before the concert, the lady said there were tickets available STILL!!! Oh well. Thx in advence
