Well, I do love piano and I love Emily's music And I also love composing myself. I've been playing piano most of my life. But its only a year ago since I first sat at the piano and just 'came up with music'. Here is one composition I would like to show you called 'Teresa's Dream'. I hope you'll like it I won second prize for it in the composition competition at the North London Festival of Music.
I've been playing piano most of this evening, and my mother is rather tired of this song now
Thats a very nice piece of music, composing is way beyond my ability, and I admire anyone who can sit and compose either music for the piano or to write a song, for Emily it just pops out, for some it takes much longer. The time it takes to compose doesn't matter the beauty of the music is what importent.

Hi Allegra,
I just heard your composition and I want to say two things. First congratulations to the second prize and second I admire people who can play the piano and moreover are able to compose new music. You can do both and therefore you have got my admiration. I am musical antitalent so I can only say if I like something or not. And your composition is interesting. However I looked "deeper" and saw that this one composition is not the only one you made. And if I am right you already composed many other songs and I didn't listen to all of them but I like e.g. this one: "Journey Through the Fjords". And I also want to say that you have played my favourite song on the Queen Victoria. I only found one unclear point. You are Allegra or Maria or Alice or Teresa.

Petee
Hi Petee,
Wow, I'm quite taken aback you have taken the trouble to listen to my other songs. That is a great compliment for me Thank you ;D
My name is really Alice. Allegra is just a nickname I use for the forum. Maria is my mum's name, and Teresa is a great friend of mine
I do love Ludovico Einaudi's music (composer of 'Le Onde'). The notes are simple and fit under the hands very nicely. But, the 'mood' is difficult to capture. A little bit like Mozart in that sense. I had the pleasure of hearing Einaudi perform in concert twice, when he came to London. Every time he plays a piece, it is different. He doesn't restrict himself to how he wrote the piece down on paper. Alot of composers continue to develop their pieces. If you listen to Emily play 'Thanks' on the Ellen show, and listen to 'Thanks' on her CD, you will hear some small differences, like added notes, in her playing.
There's a pianist (not very well-known) but his piano music is very nice. His name is David Nevue, and you can listen to all his songs on his website: www.davidnevue.com/sheetmusic.htm (there is a Flash 'music player' on that page and you can select the music and listen to it). I like to listen when I'm doing homework, my favourite songs are 'Postcards from Germany' and 'Racing the Northern Lights'. I like this music very much, and to me, this is perhaps a little like what Emily's compositions might sound like when she grows up.
It is quite interesting to hear different composers' musical ideas through their music (take 'Racing the Northern Lights' by David Nevue and 'Northern Lights' by Emily Bear. Both are accomplished musical representations of the Northern Lights, yet they sound so different and still evoke similar mental images).
Thank you for your nice compliments. I will try to compose some more songs. I'm still learning about music, and developing musically. And so I'm quite taken aback that Emily being so much younger, has already mastered the piano and her composing style. Every song she writes sounds 'special' and 'accomplished' and yet you can see her development from her earliest songs like 'Sunday Morning' to her latest 'Tomorrow's Wishes'.
Now I must go and help my mum prepare dinner (it is 7pm in England).
I just listened to your composition, and I am impressed. I played several instruments for many years, and I had a bit of understanding of music. Yet I never managed to get into composition. So far out of lack of time I could not listen to your other composition so far but I would very much like to hear more of you, and I will certainly take a look at your other compositions.
Thank you very much for your kind words. I do enjoying playing piano very much, composing is quite new to me, but I also really love it.
The most annoying thing is coming up with new ideas when I can't reach a piano. That is annoying ;D
Last Friday, the main hall in the music school was unlocked, and someone forgot to lock the Steinway grand (which is a beautiful piano). I sat there and played for 2 and a half hours! But no-one came in, and I was just there with the piano to myself. I also had a camera with me, so I recorded some of the songs I played, and wanted to share with you:
Solfegetto (Emily plays this piece alot. I cannot compare myself with her, but I just love playing this piece - I play it every day as an exercise in the morning):
This is Comptine d'un autre été, my favourite song from the 'Amelie' soundtrack:
amazing i have never herd such a great song as you have just played i love to play piano but just cant read the music.
i play the flute but as i cant read the music very well i do it by sound and then copy them I am find things like this hard so it is taking longer than usual
I very much enjoyed to listen to you playing these two pieces. I wish I could play like you. I only did some very basic steps on piano many years agol, but actually my wish is to start piano lessons. Yet I need a piano. Maybe for the beginning I should get a Korg SP-250 stage piano. Do you think this is a good idea?
Oh yes, those Steinways grands are wonderful instruments ;D
Rachel, reading musical notes as everything needs just a bit of training. I learn them on my own as soon as I could read, and it just has become very natural to me. Only I have problems with the bass clef, because I never needed this for the other instruments, but I am sure I can learn this, too.
Jasmine, reading music can be hard to begin with. There is no shortcut to learning music theory, but I promise it will get easier and eventually will become very natural. Trust me it is worth the effort in the end ;D
Dieter, I read up on some reviews of the keyboard you mention. It looks quite good, the most important thing is responsive, weighed-down keys, and alot of keys (I'm not sure how to explain it - but I mean, some electric keyboards are very small and I look at them and there aren't enough keys to play my pieces and I end up playing in mid-air for the highest-and-lowest notes ;D) The only thing I wanted to mention is one of my mum's friends bought an electric keyboard (quite an expensive one, around £1000) to learn piano. Then a year later when he improved he noticed the difference in electric and acoustic pianos (it was harder for him to play an acoustic piano as the keys are heavier and he found he made less sound) and wished he had bought an acoustic piano. But as the Korg seems to have weighted keys this shouldn't be a problem.
Thank you very much for your kind words. I do enjoying playing piano very much, composing is quite new to me, but I also really love it.

Love, Alice
Hi Alice,
I finally saw your video's they wouldn't open for me before, now they did. Your very good on the piano and I did enjoy your Solfegetto, That's was the first song I had ever heard Emily play and from then on I was hooked and you play it just as well.
Thanks for your advice. I looked up a piano teacher and of course I will ask her, too. This korg seems the one coming closest to the "real" feeling. Of course I will test it at a music shop. I had begun learning piano many years ago but had to stop, and I played on electric keyboards a bit. I can say, usually these electric keyboards don't come close to a real piano, neither in sound nor in the keys, on the electric they felt quite wobbly to me. But the problem is at the moment I cannot afford an acoustic piano
I have now waded through enough of this forum to finally notice someone else has a fine touch with composing and playing music for the piano. I did see the other video with you wearing that hat first.
You really do have a flair and personality in your playing that is very much your own. Thanks ever so much for taking the time to share your talents with us as well.

eulenspiegel2: most things have some delay because of the custom service...and very likely Emily and Abigail did not pay for speed shifting/transport...

Ursula: Unfortunately I can't read the German forum. Sigh. Too bad they haven't said anything. You'd think their lawyers would come out with a statement at the least. And they keep posting on social media like everything is normal.

Ursula: Also why is that other forum in German. Why not English?

eulenspiegel2: it is a German forum...about German pop singer... you may be surprised...but the USA is not the center of the world - it is like US people coming to Europe wondering why not signs in English ..

ursus: Ursula, Google Translate works very well if you translate from German into English and you just need to understand the meaning of what was written. It does still require an understanding of German if you want to use it to post in that language.

ursus: IIRC B&B's lawyers have until 9/23 to respond to the lawsuit. It would not make sense for them to make a public statement before that. B&B themselves have undoubtedly been instructed not to say anything either. That makes sense to me.

mastersgttom: For the benefit of all the members and the guests who visit this site be advised that there is a You Tube video out there of Barlow and Bear doing a live stream. The video was posted by Epic Wonderland. Where she got it I have no clue.

mastersgttom: The video of the live stream cannot be found on any of their social media platforms. At least from any of my feeble attempts. The video is a bit hard to watch because the audio is totally out of sync with the video.

mastersgttom: What I got out of the video was that it had nothing to do with Moana. They were very mum about their work on that movie. Bling Ring came up in some of the comments. A bit odd that they have a live stream out there, writing music, and not making it public.

mastersgttom: Wow! I just noticed that it has been a little over a year since anyone has posted anything in this Shoutbox. Eluenspiegel was the last one. I messaged him this discovery a week ago but haven't heard back. He used to be the most active member here.
