This piece is entitled 'Introspect', which means to examine one's own mind, and to reflect on one's own thoughts and feelings. I dedicate this song to Emily Bear, and I thank you Emily for the incredible amount inspiration you have brought me through your music. Enjoy, and please leave feedback.

Chris, First I want to welcome you to the forum, I think it will grow because of the talent of this young lady. The song you composed for Emily is just beautiful, I have a feeling she would really like it. I personally have no musical talent and in awe of anyone who can write fine music. don

Don,
I'm not sure who runs Emily's official website, but I'm sure this board's population would skyrocket if there was a link to here from her official site.
and thank you very much Don and Lahna for your responses.

Chris,
I think your piano composition is very nice and I, too, think Emily would love to hear it.
Could you tell us what inspired "Introspection" -- that is, did you get flashes of some bits and then you worked them into a whole or how did it come about? How long did it take to compose the whole thing?
You're right, Chris, about linking the main site to this forum. Both would tend to feed into each other and that would be a good thing, in my opinion. Don and Dieter have put together a very nice, elegant site and I know it will grow in time.
I have simply got to make one of Emily's concerts. I want to hear her in person so I'll be checking her schedule to find a time and place that is within my reach.

I composed the main riff of the song one day while improvising. I could hear it in my head, and it just kind of came out, such as with most of the material I write. I then used the same chord progression of D C Ab A to come up with the intro and the bridge. I wrote the song within a couple days, and it took me a week or so to perfect it.
I've been playing piano for less than a year, although I've been playing guitar for about 8 years, that's where my musical knowledge comes from.
I was largely inspired by Emily's music to learn to play the piano, and I've always been a huge fan of classical music. So I just bought a keyboard and began teaching myself.

Hi! Chris, your piece "Introspect" is very nice song. You should continue with composing. I am surprised that you play the piano only one year and I think you play very good. And as you wrote you were inspired by Emily to start play the piano. It is similar to me, but I started with guitar, but maybe sometimes in the future I start with piano I will see what playing the guitar makes with me . But unlike you I have to say that I didn't listen to classical music at all. When I discovered Emily she changed my life in many ways. I love all her compositions and I am starting to discover many nice classical pieces. I know that this area is probably huge but I want to put here links with three songs which I found on the gad in youtube and like them very much. Petee

Chris,
Some time passed I heard your piece "Introspect". Now I listened to it again and I have to say I like it even more (sometimes I need more time). I also heard your other composition (Lament) but I have to admit it is a bit sorrowful for me I like something more joyous. Yes its name is truthful. However, you said that you have been playing the guitar for many years. And what about some original piece for quitar. Didn't you plan anything like that?

yes petee i have a great deal of original guitar material. much of this material is ready to be recorded, i just haven't had the time lately. a lot of the music i write is in collaboration with another guitarist friend of mine, i've been trying to get him to sit down and record some of our songs together, but he often lacks the time and motivation it takes to record. as soon as i get some more videos up though i will be sure to let the forum know. if you would like to check out my band, Scry, you can look at our myspace. we were in the process of recording an album, but it has been postponed due to one of the band members having a baby. the address is www.myspace.com/scryyyactually, now that i think of it, im just going to make a topic with my bands link.

Hello chrisallen. Here is yet another wonderful piece of music written for the piano, (I had just finished listening to allegra's tune a couple steps over. ) and seeing as how your introduction to the piano is quite recent this is a very impressive piece, and well played also. Even the structure of it is a little slight of hand asymetrical, and flows rather nicely without letting on just exactly what it is that makes it a little more interesting. I hope you keep writing for piano as well. Thanks so much for sharing your skills with us too. - accskaguy -
